Man Tased For Resisting Police Commands
What should have been a basic traffic stop on North Detroit Street turned into a public spectacle in Warsaw Monday and ended with a man being Tased.
When a Warsaw Police Officer initiated the stop for a traffic violation at about 8:30 a.m., the driver of the vehicle, Brian Marks, 24, of Warsaw, stopped his car in the center turn lane of the busy highway. “For his safety, being in traffic, the officer gave instructions to Marks to move to a safe location,” said Lt. Kip Shuter of Warsaw Police Department.
Marks continually failed to comply with the officer’s instructions and was acting strangely. Lt. Shuter said the officer was also aware of a law enforcement safety bulletin pertaining to Marks, who had allegedly threatened to kill law enforcement.
For failing to follow the officer’s demands, Marks was being placed in a position to be handcuffed and searched when he resisted and fled from the officer. The officer deployed one Taser cartridge and stopped Marks from fleeing “after he had been ordered to stop several times.”
Marks continued to resist while being handcuffed and again while being escorted to a squad car for transport to jail. Multi-Township EMS was called to the scene to evaluate Marks. He was arrested for resisting law enforcement and was booked on a $500 bond.
Marks later told police he fled because he gets scared easily due to “the combat” that he has seen.
