Wildcats Whip Wabash
WABASH – Whitko’s ground game chewed up yet another conference foe Friday night.
The Wildcats ran wild in whipping host Wabash 51-7 in Three Rivers Conference action.
Whitko made it three straight wins, all in the TRC, by pounding the winless Apaches.
Tanner Hughes rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Wildcats. The standout junior had 16 carries on the night, including touchdown runs of four, 49 and 51 yards.
Whitko, now 3-2 overall and 3-0 in the TRC, rushed for 280 yards on 36 carries in the rout.
The Wildcats led 24-0 after the opening quarter and 31-0 at halftime.
Thomas Owsley also had a big night for the Wildcats, Owsley scored on a 34-yard run and also returned a punt 78 yards for another touchdown.
Brady Weeks scored on a one-yard run for the Wildcats. Devin Gerding scored on a nine-yard run for Whitko. Brady Herendeen booted an 18-yard field goal for the winners.
Whitko held Wabash, which falls to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the TRC, to four yards rushing on the night.
Leading the defense for the Wildcats were Zach Baughn, Cole Kessie, Gerding and Chris Baker.
Whitko, which is tied atop the TRC standings with Rochester at 3-0, hosts Northfield next week. Wabash plays at Tippecanoe Valley.
