Wildcats Run Past Manchester
SOUTH WHITLEY – It was a case of Home Sweet Home for Whitko Friday night.
The Wildcats made their home opener one to remember by running over Manchester 46-24.
Whitko piled up 491 yards of total offense, including an eye-popping 368 on the ground, to stomp the Squires in Three Rivers Conference play.
Whitko improves to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the TRC with its second straight win. Manchester drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league action.
The winless Squires took a short-lived 7-0 lead Friday night.
Whitko responded to tie the game at 7-7 after the opening period before taking a 26-17 halftime lead.
Quarterback Ethan Nicodemus had a huge night for the Wildcats. He completed just four passes on the night, but three of them went for touchdowns. Nicodemus also had 12 carries for 108 yards and two more scores on the ground.
Tanner Hughes racked up a team-high 130 yards on 23 carries for Whitko and scored a pair of touchdowns. Devin Gerding made it a trio of 100-yard rushers for the hosts with 113 yards on just seven carries.
The Whitko defense, which was led by top tackler Gerding, came up with three interceptions.
The Wildcats, who rushed for 368 yards on 48 carries, only had one turnovers in the win.
Whitko plays at Wabash and Manchester hosts North Miami in TRC games next Friday night.
