Voelz Powers Warsaw To Win
WARSAW – It was a bounce back performance Wednesday night for the Warsaw volleyball team.
The Tigers, one night after a tough 3-0 conference loss at Northridge, returned home and returned to their winning ways.
Standout Katie Voelz had a big night at the net to power her team past East Noble 25-6, 26-24, 24-26, 25-13 in non-conference play.
Voelz, a junior, slammed down 19 kills as the Tigers improved to 7-3 on the season. She also led the winners with eight blocks in the victory over the Knights.
Emily Poe had 10 kills to go with three aces and 13 digs for coach Mike Howard’s team.
Marie West turned in a strong night for the winners. West had a team-high 23 digs to go with two aces.
Megan Chauncey piled up 40 assists running the show for the hosts. Celia Heckert added nine kills for the Tigers.
Warsaw won the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-18.
Courtney Steffensmeier led the Tigers with six kills, two blocks and two aces.
Brynn Durecki had 10 assists and six digs for Warsaw, now 3-3. Kenzie Welk had nine digs and seven aces. Caroline Mayer had 10 digs and Haley Peterson had two blocks.
The Warsaw freshman team topped East Noble 25-15, 25-23. The frosh Tigers are now 8-3 on the season.
Warsaw plays at Columbia City Tuesday. The Tigers, who are 1-2 in NLC action, hosts league foe Plymouth next Thursday.
