Leona K. Acord, 65, North Manchester, Ind., passed away at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at her residence.
She was born at Rochester, Ind., on April 29, 1948, to Orville E. and Mae E. (Niccum) Metzger. In 1966 she graduated from Manchester High School and achieved certification for dental hygiene. She was a homemaker and dental assistant in Fort Wayne, Michigan and Georgia.
Leona was known for her great cooking and being an excellent baker. She was a wonderful mom and grandma. On Sept. 15, 1967, she married Ernest Acord, who survives.
Leona is also survived by four daughters: Amy (Jeff) Acord Hannah, Atlanta, Ga.; Elizabeth Marie (Andy) Culbertson, Silver Lake, Ind.; Angela Belin Thurston, Milford, Mich.; Emily (Scott) Acord Robbins, Poolesville, Md.; five grandchildren: Matthew Hannah, Michael Hannah, Olivia Robbins, Owen Robbins and Lillian Robbins; three brothers: Leon (Agatha) Metzger, North Manchester; Max (Irene) Metzger, Silver Lake; Wilmer (Janet) Metzger, North Manchester; and a sister: Esther (Billie) Blocher, North Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 SR 114 W., North Manchester. Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Larry Cripe will officiate the services and burial will follow in the Old German Baptist Brethren Cemetery, North Manchester.
