Altimus Powers Grace Soccer Rout
WINONA LAKE – Austin Altimus tallied a hat trick in both goals and assists in the Lancers’ 12-1 defeat of Andrews on Monday.
Eight different players scored for Grace in the men’s soccer rout as the host Lancers (3-2) outshot the Cardinals 52-3 overall.
It took Grace 23 minutes to break onto the scoreboard, but once they did, the goals came in a flurry. The Lancers scored four goals in a 13 minute span in the first half.
Austin Altimus scored the game’s first goal in the 24th minute. He then proceeded to assist on the second goal at the 30:15 mark to Jon Christensen.
After two strong shots were saved by the Cardinals’ goalkeeper, Justin Festa rebounded a loose ball in the penalty box for the third goal. Less than three minutes later, a crafty run by Trent Smith on the left side of the field resulted in a calmly slotted goal past the goalkeeper at the 36:46 mark.
Grace outshot Andrews 32-2 in the first half, forcing the Cardinals’ goalkeeper into 14 saves before halftime.
The Lancers added three more goals in the first three minutes of the second half. Steven Fiema assisted Altimus for an easy finish. Altimus returned the favor less than a minute later after a quick takeaway, giving Fiema his fourth goal of the season.
Smith then placed a deep curled shot into the back of the net at the 48th minute. Gift Sibukome added a penalty kick strike, Altimus assisted Jonathan Sands at the 58:27 mark, and Altimus went on to complete his hat trick with his third goal of the match a minute later.
Jon Christensen, assisted by Thomas Tydeman, and Dylan Andersen, assisted by Danilo Carnelos, finished up the scoring for the Lancers.
Grace will continue its three-game homestand on Wednesday when they play Cincinnati Christian at 4 p.m. They conclude the week at Miller Field on Saturday against Ohio Christian.
