Whitko Sports Wrap – Sept. 5
The Triton tennis team handed host Whitko a 4-1 loss in prep boys’ tennis action Thursday night.
Dean Howdeshell paced the Trojans with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over Tyler Baugher.
Jared Fisher posted a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles for Triton, defeating Blake Castle.
The Trojans took both doubles matches as Lucas Shafer and Darrin Harrell topped Alex Bechtold and Reed Brace 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. The Triton team of Jake Oldham and Austin Sellers beat Alec Robbins and Bailey Platt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
The host Wildcats collected a point at No. 3 singles as Cole Bechtold stopped Alex Eib 6-2, 6-3.
Triton improves to 5-3 on the season.
Volleyball Team Falls To North Miami
North Miami rallied for a close 3-1 win over host Whitko in Three Rivers Conference play Thursday night.
North Miami won the league match 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19.
Whitney Hobbs led Whitko with 11 kills, eight blocks and three aces. Setter Elaine Warner had 29 assists, five digs and one ace, while Delaney Ray had five kills and 12 digs.
Whitko won the junior varsity contest 25-17, 21-25, 15-14.
Brianna Tackett had five kills and four blocks for Whitko. Whitney Marsh had six kills and two blocks, Jasmine Gregory 11 assists, Hannah Yohe 11 digs and Kaity Reed three aces.
