Bill Nye Cancels Lecture At IPFW
Bill Nye, scientist, inventor, TV host and cast member of the new season of ABC TV’s “Dancing with the Stars” has cancelled his appearance as Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s first Omnibus Lecturer for the 2013 season. Nye cited the short time span between his scheduled appearance at IPFW Thursday, Sept. 12, and the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Monday, Sept. 16, as the reason for the cancellation.
Irene Walters, executive director of IPFW’s University Relations and Communications, expressed disappointment at Nye’s cancellation. “Everyone in the community was so excited about his lecture; so much so that all the tickets for it were reserved in just a matter of days. We are disappointed that he had to cancel, but are very much hoping IPFW and Nye can find a date in the spring when he can come and present his lecture.”
The Omnibus Lecture Series is dedicated to presenting diverse ideas through respected speakers to northeast Indiana. It is sponsored by the English-Bonter-Mitchell Foundation and the Dr. Louis A. and Anne B. Schneider Foundation.
The next Omnibus Lecture is Wednesday, Oct. 23, featuring best-selling author Jeannette Walls and her presentation, “The Glass Castle: Demon Hunting and Other Life Lessons.”
Free tickets are required for all Omnibus Lectures, and are available at the Larson Box Office in the Gates Athletic Center, 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; online; orthe Rhinehart Music Center one hour before the lecture, if seats remain.
