Warsaw Sports Wrap – Sept. 3
The duo of Nikki LaLonde and Alexis Manwaring paced the Warsaw girls golf team to two more conference wins Tuesday.
LaLonde and Manwaring shared medalist honors as each shot a 42 to lead the Tigers past Goshen and Northridge easily in Northern Lakes Conference play at the Stonehenge Golf Club.
The host Tigers shot 176 to top the Redskins (227) and the Raiders (238).
Warsaw improves to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in NLC play. NorthWood, which beat Concord 184-221 Tuesday in league action, leads the NLC at 5-0.
Kristen Watson shot a 45, while Elizabeth Meadows carded a 47 and Madi Graham a 59 for Warsaw.
Goshen shot 230 to win the junior varsity match. Warsaw shot 237 and Northridge did not field a complete JV team.
Aarshia Jain and Miranda Domiano each shot a 55 to lead the Tiger JV team. Page Desenberg shot 63, Morgan Fuentest 64 and Lauren Shaffner 65 for the Tigers.
The Warsaw JV is now 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the NLC.
Warsaw completes the NLC regular season Thursday versus host Concord and Wawasee at Bent Oak in Elkhart at 5 p.m. The NLC Tournament is set for Sept. 14.
Netters Blank Redskins
Warsaw boys’ tennis coach Rick Orban continues to mix and match his deep lineup.
The Tigers shuffled the deck again Tuesday and came up with a winning hand to blank conference foe Goshen 5-0.
Warsaw got straight sets wins at Sam Rice at No. 1 singles and Evan Miller at No. 3 to top the host Redskins. Will Petro lost his first set 6-1, but rallied to win 6-4, 6-4 in the final two at No. 2 singles for Warsaw.
The Tigers got a convincing 6-0, 6-4 win from Kyle Wettschurack and Nic Jansen at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles team of Cole Baker and Nikos Schlitt won 4-6, 7-6, 6-1.
Warsaw won the junior varsity competition 10-5.
The Tigers, who are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in NLC play, host Culver Academies Wednesday. Warsaw lost to the Eagles in the regional final in 2012.
Girls’ Soccer Squad Ties Goshen
The Warsaw girls’ soccer team played host Goshen to a 0-0 deadlock Tuesday evening in Northern Lakes Conference action.
Senior keeper Abby Schue posted her second shutout in goal for the Tigers.
Warsaw is now 2-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw coach Peter Lucht cited the play of Danielle Hutcherson, Elizabeth VanWormer, Brooklyn Jackson and Rachel McClelland in the contest.
Warsaw won the junior varsity contest 3-0. Megan Kratzsch had a goal and an assist for the winners, who are now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the NLC.
Warsaw plays at Argos Saturday. The Tigers then host NLC foes Elkhart Memorial and Concord next Tuesday and Thursday.
