Grace Netters Sweep Spring Arbor
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College men’s tennis team began its Crossroads League title defense in impressive fashion, sweeping rival Spring Arbor on Tuesday.
The Lancers (1-1; 1-0 CL) picked up all three doubles points, continuing their momentum to win all six singles matches against the Cougars (2-1; 2-1 CL).
“This was a great win for us, and a great way to start off this season,” said Grace head coach Larry Schuh. “We had outstanding performances across the board as our doubles got the job done early. We are looking forward to St. Francis and IWU this week.”
Daniel Sanchez and Aaron Blevins won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Michael Humphrey and Jose Marval claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Ethan Grove and Jack Wang fell behind 6-5 at No. 3 doubles but rallied to win three games in a row to take the match.
In singles play Sanchez, Marval and Blevins made short work of their opponents at the top three singles’ positions. Freshman Jacob Stump earned the first league victory of his career at No. 4 singles, and Humphrey and Ricardo Bedon were victorious at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
The Lancers will continue action on Friday when they travel to Saint Francis before taking on Indiana Wesleyan on the road on Saturday.
