Frosh Miller Tops For Tigers
WATERLOO – Freshman Allison Miller led the way for the Warsaw girls cross country team Saturday in the DeKalb Baron Classic.
Miller finished 12th overall in a time of 20:03 as the Tigers finished in fifth place in the team standings of the 11-team invitational.
Senior Madeline Hooks placed 27th in a time of 21:22 for coach Scott Erba’s team, which scored 149.
Sophomore Brooke Rhodes was 37th overall in a time of 22:03, followed by senior Aletheia Burritt in 38th (22:06) and junior Hannah Thompson in 41st (22:13) to complete the Tiger scoring.
Lauren Orr was 61st in a time of 23:07 for Warsaw, followed by Claire Kehler in 65th (23:14), Charlene Orr in 70th (23:21), Mallory Hooks in 71st (23:22), Emma Lemon in 72nd (23:23), Liliana Hernandez in 76th (23:37) and Kendra Paton in 77th (23:38).
Also for the Tigers, Alexis Himes placed 89th (24:17), Alexis Winters 110th (26:34), Michaela Roark 111th (26:36), Conner Gilbert 117th (27:28), Daisie Poe 120th (27:57), Shyanne McFadden 122nd (28:24), Lauren Brown 125th (29:29) and Emma Lehman 127th (31:11).
Warsaw had seven personal best efforts Saturday by Orr, Mallory Hooks, Lemon, Hernandez, Gilbert, McFadden and Brown. The duo of Paton and Winters had season best times.
Fort Wayne Carroll dominated the meet by claiming the team title with a score of 26, Northridge was second with a score of 75, followed by Fort Wayne Concordia (97), Huntington North (124), Warsaw (149), DeKalb (184), Fort Wayne Northrop (200), Columbia City (210), East Noble (215), Fort Wayne North (222) and Fort Wayne South (275).
Warsaw will host the Tiger Classic Tuesday at 5 p.m. Erba’s team has won the event the past two years. The Classic, for girls and boys, will be held at the new WCHS cross country course located west of Logan Street.
