WARSAW – Playing for the first time on their home pitch in the 2013 regular season suited the Warsaw boys soccer team just fine Thursday evening.
The Class 2-A No. 2 Tigers opened Northern Lakes Conference action with a 3-0 win over Plymouth at WCHS.
Warsaw, state runner-up in 2012, tallied three goals in the second half in blanking the Pilgrims.
The trio of Tito Cuellar, Zach Tucker and Miguel Rodriguez each found the net in the final half for the Tigers. Cuellar scored from outside the 18 off an assist from Manuel Rodriguez. Tucker scored on a breakaway goal and Miguel Rodriguez on a free kick.
The Tigers had a 12-1 advantage in shots in the contest and a 9-0 edge in corner kick chances. The hosts managed six shots on goal in the NLC opener.
Coach Scott Bauer’s squad, which had played its first three games of the season in Fort Wayne, improves to 3-0-1 overall on the campaign.
The Warsaw junior varsity team tied Plymouth 1-1.
The Tigers play at Penn Saturday with the JV match at 10 a.m., followed by the varsity. Warsaw then plays a key NLC game at Concord on Wednesday.
