Knights Hand Tigers First Loss
WARSAW – The Mishawaka Marian volleyball team got a measure of revenge on Warsaw Monday night.
The Knights, a perennial power in Class 3-A, topped the host Tigers 3-0 in non-conference action.
Warsaw defeated Marian 3-2 a year ago.
Marian won Monday night in the Tiger Den by the count of 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 to hand coach Mike Howard’s team its first loss of the young season.
Senior Laura Craig had 10 kills, 12 digs and an ace to pace the Tigers, who are now 5-1 on the season.
Emily Poe slammed eight kills and had 12 digs for Warsaw. Jordyn Lindeman had two blocks and an ace. Katie Voelz also had an ace for Warsaw.
Marian edged the Tigers 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 in the JV contest. Warsaw took the freshmen match 25-24, 19-25, 15-12 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Warsaw opens Northern Lakes Conference play Thursday evening by hosting Elkhart Memorial. The Tigers won 3-2 at Memorial during the regular season in 2012 to end the Crimson Chargers’ 76-match winning streak in the NLC. Warsaw, which went on to win the NLC championship at 7-0, then lost 3-1 to Memorial in a Class 4-A sectional semifinal match last fall.
The Memorial at Warsaw match Thursday is scheduled to begin with the JV contest at 5:30 p.m.
