Grace Goes Unbeaten In Tourney
DEARBORN, Mich. – The Grace College volleyball team completed an undefeated weekend in its first tournament of 2013 with sweeps of Lawrence Tech and IU-South Bend on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers won all four of their matches at the Michigan-Dearborn Tournament, defeating Lourdes and St. Catharine on Friday evening.
Dana Johnston led Grace offensively in both matches on Saturday with 15 kills against Lawrence Tech and 14 kills against IU-South Bend.
Lawrence Tech gave the Lady Lancers all they could handle in the 9 a.m. match, taking Grace to extra points in the first set. The Lady Lancers eventually pulled out a 27-25 win in the first set before taking the match 25-19 and 25-23.
Calah Kruse produced 21 digs, and Ellie Harp dished out 27 assists to go along with 10 digs. Johnston’s 15 kills came on a .419 percentage.
Grace’s defense was on display in their second match of the day against IU-South Bend, holding the Titans to a team hitting percentage of .069.
The Lady Lancers eked out a pair of 25-23 wins in the first two sets before completing the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third set.
Johnston and Alix Underwood (six kills) each had a .357 hitting percentage, and Harp added 29 assists and five digs.
Hannah Clemmons recorded a team-high 14 digs, and Jessica Scherb added 12 more.
The Lady Lancers’ next tournament is Aug. 30-31 at the Embry-Riddle Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
