Friday DUI Checkpoint Reports Results
County and local law enforcement agencies participating in the Kosciusko County DUI Taskforce announced in early August the continuation of roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints during the month. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, officers conducted roving patrols and a sobriety checkpoint, which was held at Gilsinger’s, 6287 N. SR 15, Leesburg.
The sobriety checkpoint yielded the following arrests, citations and warnings: three operating while intoxicated arrests; one possession of controlled substance; three possession of paraphernalia; one expired license plate/citation; on suspended license/infraction; one learner permit violation/infraction; one no valid operators license in possession; one false/fictitious plates/registration; one possession of marijuana; one possession of look-alike-drug/marijuana; one open container; one seatbelt citation; and seven warnings/equipment violations.
The project, which was made possible through grants received by the Governor’s Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving, is a year-long statewide project aimed at reducing alcohol-related crashes, deaths and injuries. With the increase in traffic, the DUI Taskforce is committed to making the roads safer by their increased presence and DUI enforcement throughout Kosciusko County.
Law enforcement officials from the following agencies are involved in the effort to reduce drunk driving: Kosciusko County Sheriffs’ Department, Mentone Police Department, Milford Police Department, Pierceton Police Department, North Webster Police Department, Silver Lake Police Department, Syracuse Police Department, Warsaw Police Department and Winona Lake Police Department.
