Shoemaker Disappearance Reaches One Year Mark
Friday will mark the one year anniversary of the disappearance of Aurora Shoemaker and police admit they are no closer to discovering what happened to her.
Shoemaker was 18 when she went missing during a walk at Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park, Warsaw. The young woman’s family and investigators of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department admit Shoemaker seemingly vanished without a trace.
“She is in mine, her siblings and her father’s thoughts everyday,” said Shoemaker’s mother, Lori Helblig. In a post on a Facebook page established to help find Aurora, Helblig added, “Your help, thoughts, prayers, etc. are deeply appreciated. We just want her home! We love her so much and miss her so much!”
Shoemaker was last seen around 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, in Suburban Acres Mobile Home Park, Warsaw. She told a family member she was going for a walk, but she never returned. The young woman left with only the clothes she was wearing and her cell phone, which was either turned off or went dead shortly after her disappearance.
Today, KCSD Detective Lt. Todd Sautter said, “Currently we do not have any new leads or pertinent information related to the location of Aurora Shoemaker. We still have her file classified as an open case and continually request any information that the public can provide to her whereabouts. We have attempted to track down and follow every lead that has arrived at our agency, but unfortunately for us and Aurora’s family, those have not been productive as to locating her.”
Sautter noted the most recent tip came in about mid-April and involved a possible sighting in Ohio. That sighting, however, has never been confirmed.
Helblig said her daughter loved welding in school and enjoys taking walks and listening to her music. “She loves going shopping and trying on clothes even when we had no money to buy them,” Helblig added. “She loves to write and read. [She is] always ready to help a family member or a friend with anything. She’s a very loving and caring person.”
Aurora Shoemaker is approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall, 120 pounds with short blonde hair, green eyes and lower lip piercing’s.
