I do not want to oversimplify some of life’s challenges. However, I do believe how we look at things, our perspective, is a great factor in our ultimate success. The glass half full or half empty thinking does play a major role in the results we experience.
The change of one letter in a small three letter word can change your results and your life. We need to go from Got to Get. Changing one little letter can impact your family, your work and your business success. How many times have we all said phrases like:
I’ve got to go to work.
I’ve got to get up early.
I’ve got to clean the house.
I’ve got to cook dinner.
I’ve got to do the laundry.
I’ve got to serve my clients.
I’ve got to do this paperwork.
When you hear each of these phrases doesn’t it stir up a negative emotion? Behind the words you can subtly sense someone really saying they wish they could be doing something else other than what they have got to do. A simple change from an ‘o’ to an ‘e’ changes the entire attitude behind what is being said.
I get to go to work.
I get to get up early.
I get to clean the house.
I get to cook dinner.
I get to do the laundry.
I get to serve my clients.
I get to do this paperwork.
As you read the get list, doesn’t it stir up an emotion of joy, or excitement? Doing things which we are excited about is much more fun than things we dread. When we do the things we are excited about we put our all into them and the results are much better than when we feel forced to do them. Do you have a child who you literally have to drag out of bed every morning for school? Now, remember how early they get up on Christmas.
When you are dissatisfied with your job, you have got to go to work. When you have not had a job in six months, but now you do, you get to go to work. When you have to go to work, you’ve got to get up early. When you are going to play golf at your favorite course, you get to get up early.
When you are tired you’ve got to clean the house, cook dinner and do laundry. When you have been incapacitated due to a lengthy sickness or injury, but now you are well, you get to clean, cook and do laundry.
When you want to be doing something other than work you’ve got to serve your clients. When you are happy to be working so you can take care of your family, you get to serve your clients. When you seem overwhelmed with your to do list, you’ve got to do your paperwork. When you receive your paycheck after the paperwork is completed, you get to do your paperwork.
I believe it really boils down to being grateful. When we are ungrateful, we’ve got to do meaningless things we dread. However, when we are truly grateful for our family, our work and our business – we get to do exciting and important things.
Do you want to change the results you may be experiencing? Change your attitude from Got to Get. It’s not a difficult change – just change the ‘o’ to an ‘e.’
