Triton Summerfest Begins Friday
What started off as an informal car show now is a full-weekend community event. Triton Community Summerfest will take place at the Triton Community Summerfest Grounds, located at East Sunset Drive, Bourbon, from Friday, Aug. 9, to Sunday, Aug. 11, this year.
Friday offers only a couple of events, but they are sure to entertain.
Carousel rides begin and vendors will open shop at 6:30 p.m. Rides, vendors and ball games will be available on Saturday and Sunday as well.
At the same time, the doors for the Miss Triton Summerfest Pageant will open. Admission costs $1 or is free to those who bring a paper product for the First United Methodist church food pantry.
Saturday kicks off with the Summerfest 5K Fun Run with registration at 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and the race beginning at 8:45. All proceeds from the race will go to the Jacob Memorial Scholarship Fund. For more information, call Justina Reichert at (574) 253-2186.
Shortly after, the parade will begin line up at the tennis court with judging from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The parade itself will begin at 11 a.m. and will take place rain or shine. This year’s theme is “Freedom, Love, Joy and Peace.”
After collecting candy from the parade, children from the Triton school area can sign up to compete for the title of Cutie King or Queen at 12:30 p.m. with the contest to begin at 1 p.m. After the contest, more fun is in store for children with the Bubble Gum and Twinkie eating contest for children.
Later on in the day at 5 p.m. the Tractor Pull begins at the tennis courts. Entertainment will follow with Daryle Loveless, Lafayette, performing Jonnie Cash, Josh Turner and Trace Atkins songs at 6:30 p.m. and Quentin Flagg, Argos, singing Elvis Presley singles and more.
At dusk, not only will the Bourbon Fire Department light up the night sky with fireworks, but Triton Elementary will serve free ice cream in celebration of 50 years of education,. which will round out the night.
Events start bright an early at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday with breakfast at the park sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary Post NO. 424 of Bourbon. Half an hour later at 8 a.m. reigstration for the Show and Shine begins. Call Lonnie Kerkey at (574) 342-0064 for more information.
After the Show and Shine’s conclusion, sign up for the Cutie Baby contest. Age ranges are 0 to 3 months, 4 to 6 months, 7 to 12 months, 13 to 18 months and 19 months to 3 years.
At 2 p.m Nashville artist Trilly Cole will entertain. The last event, a Tae Kwon Do demonstration, will take place at 3 p.m.
