NORTH WEBSTER – On an unseasonably cool July morning, Nate West of Winona Lake and Amy Ehinger of Fort Wayne had their feet smoking.
West ran a 19:18.13 to lead all runners at the 2013 Dixie Days 5K, beating runner-up Jeremiah Stitchter of Winona Lake by five seconds to the final line. Luke Griner of North Webster was third in the male category, running a 20:17.78.
Ehinger did not have much competition in the form of ladies chasing her down. Eringer cruised to the line at 24:46.34 unopposed for the ladies’ title. Runner-up in the female division was Sidney Jones of Auburn at 27:30.39 and Claire Close of Muncie in third at 27:43.40.
The field of 98 runners far surpassed any previous year’s running field for the Dixie Days 5K, and had fair representation in both male and female participants.
