Summer Spotlight: Town & Country At Pierceton
PIERCETON – The Pierceton ball diamonds have been buzzing for several days and will continue to do so as the Town & Country baseball tournament carries on this weekend for the Senior District 11 12-U teams.
The eight-team tournament began Thursday night with a pair of games followed by two more games Friday night. Saturday was the busy day, as winners and losers brackets were filling in all day for the double elimination tournament.
New Paris knocked Akron out of the tournament, 27-0, in the first game Saturday morning, with North Manchester using a steady diet of offense to beat Bremen, 8-2, in the day’s second game to eliminate Bremen.
Plymouth moved to 2-0 in the tournament with a 10-0 run-rule win over South Whitley and Nappanee did the same against Mentone, 10-0, to also move to 2-0. The two teams will square off at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the winner guaranteed at least a chance at the title.
In the getback games this evening, North Manchester upended South Whitley, 5-1, to move on while South Whitley packs its bat bags. Mentone rallied from its loss to Nappanee earlier in the day to upset New Paris, 5-1, in Saturday night’s final game, ending New Paris’ tournament run.
Mentone and North Manchester will meet in Sunday’s second game, with the winner of that game facing the loser of the Plymouth-Nappanee game. Monday’s championship game is set for 6 p.m., and a 7:45 p.m. time slot is set if a second game is needed to be played for the Town & Country title.
