Leroy Sweatland
Leroy Sweatland, 83, of New Paris, Ind., passed away at home on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. He had been ill for the past month.
Mr. Sweatland was born in St. Charles, Mich., on Dec. 31, 1929, to Walter and Mable (Tarrent) Sweatland. On Aug. 30, 1952, he married Joyce Ann Rosser. She preceded him in death.
A longtime member of the Elks and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Leroy worked as a manager in the R.V. and boat industry. He was an avid woodworker, and loved to fish and hunt. Leroy also enjoyed grilling, cooking and entertaining. In his own words he was, “put on this earth to make people laugh,” and he did.
He is survived by three daughters: Christy (Rex) Shriner, New Paris; Luanne (Dan) Spurling, Cromwell, Ind.; Kathy Sweatland, Fort Wayne, Ind.; one son: Steve (Cherie) Sweatland, Syracuse, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with Leroy’s wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
