Richard Vanderveer
Richard Vanderveer, 85, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at the IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born on May 30, 1928, in Goshen, Ind., to Donald and Hazel (Searfoss) Vanderveer. He was a lifelong area resident having grown up in the Milford area. He was a US Army veteran and a Purdue University graduate. On Oct. 7, 1951, he married Mavis Vance who survives.
He started his career after the service with Bell Aircraft Corporation in New York, and retired from NIPSCO in 1985.
He is survived by his wife; three nieces: Ann (Carlos) Bennett, Germantown, Ohio; Janet (Larry) Lant, Syracuse, Ind.; Amy (Scott) Williams, Jackson, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents and two sisters: Elizabeth Shaw and Margaret Purdum.
Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Eastlund Funeral Home. Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, the Eastlund Funeral Home with Pastor Christopher Lantz officiating. Burial at the Milford Cemetery will take place at a later date.
