Summer Spotlight: Milford Youth League

MILFORD – In another case of teams trying to beat each other as well as hoping to outhustle impending storms, Milford’s Youth League fields were buzzing Thursday night with semi-finals games in boys and girls minor tournaments.

Two games were able to be played before lightning interfered. The girls minor matchup between the hometown Thunder hosting the North Webster Lil’ Warriors paralleled the boys minor semi-final, as a pair of Syracuse league teams locked horns where the defending champion Sand Gnats played the Red Wings.

The girls game had the Thunder’s Taylor Castro rumble home for the only run of a 1-0 victory over the Lil’ Warriors while Gavin Malone cracked a home run to pace the Sand Gnats to a 5-0 final over the Red Wings. Both teams will advance to the finals, but work is still needed to be done in semi-final play. Lightning in the area postponed each of the other semi-finals, which sets up reschedule dates for the boys minors Milford Orioles and North Webster Tigers to meet Saturday at 9 a.m. in Milford while the Milford Blaze and North Webster Angels will meet Sunday at 6 p.m. in Milford in the other girls minor semi-final. The boys major semis are at 7:45 p.m. Sunday in North Webster.

Championship games are listed as follows: Boys minor at 6 p.m. and boys major at 6:30 p.m. Monday, both games in Syracuse; while girls minor will play at 6 p.m. Monday in North Webster.
