Lewis Bert ‘Lew’ Goshert
Lewis Bert “Lew” Goshert, 86, of North Manchester, Ind., and formerly of Warsaw, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester.
He was born March 8, 1926, in Atwood, Ind., to Ronald Andy Goshert and Ruth (Burt) Goshert. In 1944 he graduated from Warsaw High School, Warsaw, Ind.
Lewis enlisted March 7, 1944, and entered the U.S. Navy on June 8, 1944, in Warsaw. Pharmacist’s Mate 3c Lewis Bert Goshert was honorably discharged July 8, 1946, through Great Lakes, Ill.
He worked with his father at Skelgas as a self employed long haul truck driver for over 20 years. He belonged to Masonic Lodge #73 F & AM, Warsaw; Mizpah Shriners, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and American Legion #49. He oved sports and played football and basketball in high school. He also played fast pitch softball for the traveling Warsaw AA team and played a short stint with the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons and was a basketball referee for 19 years and a member of the Northern Indiana Officials Association
He is survived by a son: Gary (Cindy) Goshert, Ligonier, Ind.; a daughter: Vonnie (David) Miller, Asheville, N.C.; a brother: Bill (Dede) Goshert, Warsaw; a sister: Martha Houser, Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandsons: Brian Hepler, Wilmington, N.C.; David (Jenny) Hepler, Langhorne, Pa.; and Matthew Acton, Asheville, N.C.; three granddaughters: Neile Acton, Asheville, N.C.; Gretchen Goshert, Milford, Ind.; and Megan (Brett) Grimes, Brownsburg, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Jacob, Justin, Colin and Sienna.
He was preceded in death by a grandson: Luke Acton.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Joey Nelson, Stone’s Hill Community Church, Ligonier, Ind.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military honors conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
