Curtis Owens
Curtis Owens, 82, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.
On Sunday, June 16, 2013, he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer after surgery, which affected his stomach, gallbladder, and colon. He remained in the hospital until his death.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., where he worked as a molder for Dalton Foundries in Warsaw and retired after 43 years. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. His favorite pastime was being with his horses. He cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and the memories he made with them.
He was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Johnie Owens and Mary (Adams) Owens. Later the Owens family became residents of Silver Lake, Ind. On May 9, 1953, in Silver Lake, he was married for 57 years to Katy Jane Miller, who preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 2011.
He is survived by his daughter: Carolyn S. Owens (Rev. Michael D. Tomlinson), Warsaw; two granddaughters: Michelle S. (Ryan) Neese, Warsaw; and Jessica A. Tomlinson, Warsaw; two great-grandchildren: Kaitlin and Dylan Neese; two brothers: Orval Owens, Warsaw; Johnnie Dean Owens, Mentone, Ind.; and five sisters: Madie Camel, Mt. Gillian, Ohio; Faye Francis and Eula Manns, both of Palestine, Ind.; and Beulah Yates and Alice Brown, both of Claypool, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three brothers.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Rd., Warsaw. His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the funeral home and officiated by Reverend Michael D. Tomlinson. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw.
