Kosciusko County Community Fair Exhibit Entries Still Open

By Joan Younce,
Purdue Extension Office

The Kosciusko County Community Fair is just around the corner and many county residents are preparing exhibits for the open class divisions in the Home and Family Arts Building. You still have some time to be thinking about what you would like to exhibit. Anyone in the county can make an entry.

Be sure to look at the fair book before making your entries to make sure there is a category for it. Most things will be acceptable since we have several miscellaneous categories. There are departments for baking, food preservation, needlework, fine arts, crafts, agriculture, herbs, flowers and plants and sewing. There are no entry fees.

Entries will be accepted from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, in the Home and Family Arts Building at the fairgrounds. Judging will follow, but will be closed to the public. The building will be open to the public beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 7.

Each class will have a first, second and third place winner. Each department will have category champions and a best of show. Two departments now have two best of shows because of the number of entries. For more complete information, stop in at the Purdue Extension office at 202 W. Main St., Warsaw, or visit www.ces.purdue.edu/kosciusko for an open class fair book.

Only non-perishable baked goods will be accepted; no cream pies, whipped cream toppings or raw egg items. Be sure to check the food safety guidelines in the fair book for preserved and baked items or call 574-372-2340 for additional information.

Also this year, there will be demonstrations in the Home and Family Arts Building at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on most days, Monday through Saturday, of the fair. The programs are listed in the fair book, so stop by and see what you can learn.

The Kosciusko County Community Fair officially runs from Monday, July 8, to Saturday, July 13, however there are some activities going on Sunday, July 7. There is no charge on Sunday or if you enter the grounds before 1 p.m. on the regular fair days.
