James Alan Joyce
James Alan Joyce, 75, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on May 25, 1938, in Lake County, Ind., to Everett Joyce and Bertha (Chappey) Joyce. On July 17, 1959, he was married to Sharon J. Grugel in Griffith, Ind. James was then remarried on Dec. 23, 1978 in Leesburg, to Karen Hamman-Layne, who survives in Leesburg.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County, Ind., for the past 44 years. He was a truck driver for many years for Lewis Salvage (formerly Meyer Levin & Sons) of Warsaw, Ind., retiring in 2004.
As a teen in the Griffith area, he delivered pizzas and sold ice-cream on a bicycle route. As an adult he worked at the Rand McNally book facility for several years. He moved to Kosciusko County in 1969 and began working at Pepsi Cola delivering Pepsi products to a set route of customers in the area. Later he worked for M & K Metals driving loads of metal across the country.
One of his favorite hobbies was work. He was always working on anything he could get his hands on. His most favorite pastime was being with his grandchildren –seeing them made him extremely happy.
He is survivd by his daughters: Sheila (Michael) Grevenstuk, Warsaw; Laura (Jack) Moody, Warsaw; Pamela (Gabe) Rassi. Syracuse, Ind.; Kimberly Joyce, Leesburg; Sara (Todd) Biller, Milford, Ind.; and his son: Clay Layne (Sandy) Joyce, Warsaw; fourteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Deborah Seymour; and one grandson: Jeremy.
His visitation will be held on from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the funeral home. Services will be officiated by Pastor Gale Janofski. Burial will follow at Leesburg Cemetery.
