Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel from Mentone responded to a single-vehicle crash Wednesday at 3:16 p.m. on CR 1000 West, north of CR 700 South.

Officers arrived and located a vehicle that had struck a metal fence post. The driver, Tammy L. Mikel, 49, of Mentone, was going in and out of conscious and officials called for a helicopter to fly her to Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Mentone EMS and Fire Department extricated the driver from the vehicle and she is currently listed in serious condition with head and internal injuries.

Officers said Mikel was southbound on CR 1000 West and, for an unknown reason, drove off the west side of the roadway striking the metal post.  The crash is still currently under investigation.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Mentone Fire Department, Mentone EMS and the Indiana State Police.
