BREAKING: Atwood House Fire Was Set
According to Atwood Fire Chief Mike Harmon, a fire at 6321 W. 100 N., Warsaw, was set.
Neighbors on the scene of the 2:05 p.m. fire said a mail carrier called 911 to report heavy smoke pouring from a window of the home. County records indicate the house is owned by Richard and Sherry Martin.
The fire was quickly contained and mostly resulted in heavy smoke damage, according to Harmon, who was not at the scene but provided information from fire fighter Randall Byers. While he does not have complete details yet, Harmon said Byers informed him a boy, whose age is not yet known, admitted to setting the fire.
While fire fighters were tending to the blaze, a fight between two men erupted in the yard of the residence, but it is so far unclear if it was related to the fire.
Initially it was believed animals were in the home, but the homeowner arrived and said the only pet, a puppy, was with her and not in the residence when the fire started. Squad 70, the county’s fire investigation team, was initially called to the scene, but disregarded shortly thereafter.
