Softball Regional Tilts Moved To Today
Mother Nature was once again the winner Tuesday night as a pair of area softball teams had their regional games postponed due to the wet weather.
The Class 4-A regional game between No. 2 Northridge (25-1) and South Bend Riley (20-5) was rescheduled for today. The game is set for 5:45 p.m. in Middlebury. The Raiders, who won the Warsaw Sectional title, beat Riley in the regional a year ago before losing in the semi state title game to Huntington North.
The winner of the Northridge-Riley game advances to play Portage (22-6) at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first semifinal game of the Harrison (West Lafayette) Semistate.
Fairfield is now slated to play at No. 4 Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger today at 6 p.m. in a Class 3-A regional game. The winner of the Falcons (20-8) versus Dwenger (23-2) game will play either Griffith or Hanover Central at 1 p.m. Saturday in the second semifinal game of the Twin Lakes Semistate.
South Bend St. Joseph continued its magical postseason run in Class 3-A Tuesday night. Coach Earl Keith’s Indians, who had knocked off rival and No. 1 Mishawaka Marian in the sectional finale, rallied to edge host Twin Lakes 2-1 for the regional title. St. Joe (24-8) will play No. 6 Yorktown (23-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first semifinal game of the Twin Lakes Semistate,
Bremen, ranked No. 6, lost a heartbreaking 5-2 regional contest at Adams Central in Class 2-A play. The hosts scored four runs in their final at-bat, including a walk-off, game winning three-run homer by freshman Kara Keller to stun the Lions. Adams Central advances to play Wapahani (24-7) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the LaVille Semistate to be played at Newton Park.
