Dr. Carey Monroe Parrett
Dr. Carey Monroe Parrett, 93, formerly of Milford, Ind., passed away on May 2, 2013, in Sebring, Fla.
He grew up in Bloomingburg, Ohio, and married Edith Jean Clayton of Greenfield, Ohio, in 1941.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dr. Parrett volunteered to serve in the armed forces, landing in Normandy just days after the June invasion. He received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his valor during the Battle of the Bulge, and another Purple Heart and numerous commendations during his service in the war.
Supported by the G.I. Bill, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ohio State University in 1950. Dr. Parrett operated a thriving large and small animal practice in Milford, Ind., during the 1950s. He joined Eli Lilly in 1961 and served in a number of executive sales and marketing positions within the animal health division in Indianapolis.
In 1979 he launched the Parrett Veterinary Hospital in Indianapolis, specializing in small animals and birds. Upon retirement in 1988, Dr. Parrett moved to Sebring, where his beloved wife Jean preceded him in death. He remained in Florida and married Janice Clayton of Gaithersburg, Md., in 1993. They shared 20 wonderful years together.
Dr. Parrett is survived by his wife; his children: Thomas (Theresa) Parrett and William (Kathleen) Parrett; Patricia (Tim) Mader; stepson; David (Clara) Molden; Jan’s children; Cindy (Steve) Hughes; Debbie (Jim) Talbot; and Lynn (Jim) Hackett; and his grandchildren: Carey Parrett; Danielle Parrett; Christina Parrett; Jessie Faller-Parrett; Mia Parrett; Jonathan (Chief) Parrett; Jean Mader; and Holly Mader.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Lesley and James Parrett; and his sister: Tommy Lou Imlay.
He will be placed to rest in Sebring at a date to be determined.
