She was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Staton and Tereva May (Moody) Osburn. On Oct. 12, 1953, she married Alden VanNess. Her second marriage was to James Hawn in April 1973.
Barbara worked for Sun Metal Products in Warsaw for 42 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #258 in Pierceton; loved her cat, Carmel; was very independent and enjoyed the Senior Center where she was the instructor for Chair Aerobics. In earlier years she enjoyed water activities on the lake.
Barbara is survived by a son: Doug VanNess, North Webster, Ind.; a grandson: Jared (Melanie) VanNess, Warsaw; a granddaughter: Jennifer Cole, Warsaw; several great-grandchildren; and a brother: Robert Osburn, Akron, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; two sons: Kim VanNess and Allen VanNess; and six brothers: Richard Osburn, Harry Osburn, James Osburn, Loren Osburn, Earl Osburn and John Osburn.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Jarboe. Burial will be in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green, Ind.
