Wawasee Caps Season With JV Title
SYRACUSE – Victory was sweet for the Wawasee JV softball team Saturday, closing out its junior campaign with a pair of wins at the Wawasee Softball Invitational.
A 5-3 Central Noble lead disappeared in game one as Wawasee stormed back with eight unanswered tallies in an 11-5 win. Alexis Graber picked up the pitching win in relief, working three innings of one-hit relief and combined with Priscilla Weikart at the dish for six hits, five runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Allissa Flores added a hit and three RBIs in the win. Lyric Lambright was effective as the Wawasee starter, giving up just four hits in four innings.
In the championship game against Triton, Wawasee again avenged a slow start to crush the Lady Trojans 16-1 in five innings.
Triton and Wawasee were knotted at one after one inning, but Wawasee scored six runs in the second and nine more in the third to put the game away.
Graber fired a four-hitter, striking out five for the win while adding three more hits and three RBIs. Sierra Hart and Flores also had three hits. Wawasee as a whole had nine extra-base hits, highlighted by a homer from Weikart.
Wawasee completes its season with a 15-4 mark.
