Valley Shows Strong At Sectional
The Tippecanoe Valley girls track team will be well represented at next week’s regional.
The Vikings put together a strong showing Tuesday night to earn a third-place finish in the Rochester Sectional.
Valley placed individuals or relay teams in the top four of eight different events to earn berths in the Warsaw Regional May 21.
Leading the Vikings with a sectional championship performance was its 400 relay team of sophomores Jazzmine Brown and Caylie Teel and freshmen Alexis O’Connell and Karis Tucker. The quartet took top honors with a time of 52.36.
Teel also placed second in the 100 and third in the long jump to earn regional spots in those events. Brown was third in the 400 and fourth in the high jump to advance.
Also earning regional berths were Hailee Hunsberger with a second place in the discus and Catherine Leadford with a third in the 300 hurdles. The 1600 relay team of Brown, Breelyn Conley, Brooklyn Conley and Robyn Erklin also advanced with a fourth place finish.
Jaela Meister led the way for Triton Tuesday night. She qualified for the regional in three events by placing third in the 100 hurdles and fourth in both the 300 hurdles and the pole vault.
Also advancing for the Trojans were Breanna Lemler with a second place in the 400 and the 3200 relay team of Shana Anderson, Kayleigh Craig, Allie Kann and Alexis Miller, which placed fourth.
Culver Academies won the sectional team title with 137 points. Plymouth was second with 123 and Valley was third with 82. Triton placed seventh with 44 points.
