Born in Fort Wayne, Edward graduated from South Side High School and attended Michigan State and Indiana University. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Edward was executive vice president and chairman of Lupke Rice Associates and past president of Rice Ford Lincoln, Warsaw, Ind.
He was a member and on the finance committee of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Arcola and member of the Defiance Orientation Conference Association, and Sycamore Hills Golf Club. He was past board member of St. Francis University, Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Anthony Wayne Corporation and Wayne Hardware. He was past vice president of Wawasee Property Owners Association and was a Wawasee Lake Patrol deputy sheriff.
Edward was very active in Indiana and local Republican politics and was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash award. He was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years: Maryellen (McKeeman) Rice, Fort Wayne; sons: Stanford E. (Susan) Rice, Fort Wayne; Daniel B. (Tina) Rice and John D. (Tricia) Rice, both of Warsaw; a sister: Cynthia Hogan, Bloomington, Ind.; and grandchildren: Alexandra, William, Michael, Samuel, Hannah, Daniel, Elizabeth and Christina.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents: Dr. Wilke B. and Georgiana Rice.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 17, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Arcola, 12305 Arcola Rd., with calling one hour prior. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
