Relay For Life Set For May 18-19
This year, the American Cancer Society is celebrating its 100th year. And every year, Relay For Life of Kosciusko County aims to remember those lost to cancer, celebrate those who won again cancer and help the ACS fight against the deadly disease. This year’s Relay for Life is set for Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19.
The 18-hour event, which goes from 3 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, will be held at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds. The theme for this year’s Relay is “There Is No Place Like Hope.” Nearly every participant has been touched in some way by cancer, but those who aren’t participating in the Relay are welcome to come and enjoy the festivities as well.
The opening ceremony starts at 3 p.m. and will be followed by Survivor Lap, Caregiver Lap and Team Lap. Survivors are invited to join in the opening ceremony and the dinner at 4 p.m. Caregivers are invited to a special reception at 3:30 p.m. All those affected are invited to come and celebrate their fight.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
- Ride For A Cure Poker Run: 3:15 p.m.
- Survivor Dinner: 4 p.m.
- Silent Auction: 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Jordan Bucher Nashville Musicians: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Fight Back Ceremony/Birthday Party: 8 p.m.
- Purple Dance Party: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Luminaria Ceremony: 10 p.m.
- Double Tap Band: 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
- Karaoke 1 a.m. to 2 a.m.
- Sunrise Church Service: 7 a.m.
- Closing Ceremony: 9 a.m.
There will be a great deal of other entertainment happening throughout the event. Most teams will have food to sell for participants and the community to enjoy. Fire in the Hole will have pizza as well as others with hamburgers, hotdogs, pork barbeque, baked goods, snow cones and more. The Equestrians Cantering for Cancer will be riding the entire time.
