LAPORTE – Ryan Rapp had a day to remember on the golf course Friday.
The Triton senior standout captured medalist honors in a strong field at the Uebele Invitational.
Rapp toured the layout at the Beechwood Golf Course with an even par round of 72 to earn top individual honors in the event, which included golfers from 26 teams.
Rapp’s performance led the Trojans to a second-place finish in the final team standings. Triton shot 314, just four shots back off No. 2 and champion Valparaiso’s 310.
Rapp continued his stellar senior season for coach Jack Carpenter’s squad by winning his first tourney title. The senior, who is bound for Marian University, has given the Trojans a strong 1-2 punch at the top of its lineup with Ball State bound teammate Quentyn Carpenter.
Rapp drained six birdies in his winning performance, including a pair on the final two holes. Michael Makris of Mishawaka Marian was runner-up with a 73.
Carpenter, also a senior, finished with a 78 for the Trojans. Tanner Shepherd shot 81, Greg Music 83 and Lucas Shafer 86 for Triton.
Valparaiso took top team honors with its 310. The rest of the top 10 was Triton (314), followed by Crown Point (316), Lake Central (324), Portage (325), Culver Academies (329), Chesterton (329), Michigan City (332), Mishawaka Marian (336) and LaPorte (337).
