Everett G. Sowers
Everett G. Sowers, 90, of Indianapolis, Ind., and formerly of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 10:05 p.m Friday, May 10, 2013, at Brookdale Place of Fall Creek in Indianaplolis.
He was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Lapaz, Ind., to Victor and Dolly (Holland) Sowers.
He graduated in 1940 from Lapaz High School and was married on March 1, 1944, in Warsaw, Ind., to Roberta B. Perkins who preceded him on Oct. 24, 2012.
He was an U.S. Navy Veteran. He moved from to Warsaw from Valparaiso, Ind., in 1952, then to the Leesburg area in 1968 before moving to Indianapolis in 2012. He retired from Conrail Railroad in 1984 as a station agent after 45 years of service.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in North Webster, Lakeland Kiwanis in North Webster, and American Legion Post 49 in Warsaw. He was a former member of the Warsaw Lions Club.
He is survived by two sons: Steve (Rita) Sowers, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Randy (Joyce) Sowers, Mishawaka, Ind.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister: Myrna (Willy) Hernandez, Van Wert, Ohio; two brothers: Blaine (Esther) Sowers, Leo, Ind.; and Lowell (Elizabeth) Sowers, South Bend, Ind.
He was preceded by his parents; wife; two sisters: Karen Deaval and Margret Nicklas; and two brothers: Victor and Marvin Sowers.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, at the United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd., North Webster, Ind. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the church with Pastor David Smitley of the church officiating. Military graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Memorial bequest may be given to the United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd., North Webster, IN 46555. Envelopes will be available at the church.
