KREMC Delivers Safety Message To Fourth Graders
Go fly a kite, but NOT near an electric line. That’s just one of the important safety messages being presented to over 1,000 area 4th graders as part of Kosciusko REMC’s annual electric safety training in Kosciusko schools, going on now through May 10.
Each spring, KREMC brings educator Jerry Palma, also known as “A.C. Sparks,” to present his “School of Safety Sleuthing” to 4th-grade students. Through an engaging visual display that utilizes a detective theme, students receive basic training on how to safely use electricity, and how to handle emergency situations when electricity is involved.
The students also receive safety and energy advice from Carol Ousley, the KREMC Energy Advisor.
In 2013, thirteen schools in Kosciusko REMC’s service area have signed up for participation, with sessions being held during the weeks of April 30 and May 6. Children learn about electrical safety issues throughout the house and outdoors, including such topics as “octopus outlets” and ground fault circuit interrupters.
“Safety is a top priority at KREMC, and helping kids learn how to be safe around electricity is one of the most important things we do,” said Bruce Goslee, president and CEO of KREMC. “Providing safety training has always been a priority, and we’re glad that we receive outstanding cooperation from area schools to provide this important education.”
KREMC is a member-owned Touchstone Energy® electric cooperative serving over 17,000 customers throughout Kosciusko County and into surrounding counties.
