Plymouth Jets Past Wawasee Tennis
SYRACUSE – Plymouth finished its Northern Lakes Conference regular season on a high note while Wawasee could not find any glory.
The visiting Pilgrims swept all five courts in straight sets Monday night in a 5-0 girls tennis result at Wawasee in the NLC capper for both clubs. Plymouth (13-3 overall, 5-2 NLC) and Wawasee (3-8, 0-7 NLC) both will head into the NLC tournament this Wednesday on different momentum pushes.
Plymouth were led by its doubles play, a love and love win at one by Marissa Garman and Andria Shook over Jada Antonides and Priscilla Par and then a three and love win by Emily Blake and Ellen Smith against Natalie Fritz and Molly Smith on the two doubles court.
Allie Berger cruised to a one and one win over Esther Hermann at one singles and sister Carly won love and three against Sam Prins at three singles. Mikayla German needed a second set tiebreaker to get past Katy Ashpole at two singles, but prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Plymouth won four of the five JV courts, Wawasee’s lone win coming from Ashley Larson in an 8-2 triumph against Krista Cantero.
The NLC tournament will begin Wednesday at Plymouth High School, with match play beginning at 4:30 p.m. on a first come, first play basis. Bracket play will resume Thursday and Friday at Plymouth, concluding with championship matches Friday evening.
