Blue Blazers Edge Warsaw
WARSAW – Elkhart Central took advantage of its opportunities Tuesday day night to nip Warsaw 4-3 in prep baseball action.
The Class 4-A No. 3 Blue Blazers tallied three unearned runs in the non-conference makeup contest at WCHS.
A trio of pitchers, Matt Eppers, Devin Prater and Cory Malcolm, combined on a four-hitter as Central ran its season mark to 19-1.
Central took a 4-0 lead with three runs in the second inning and one more in the third frame. Warsaw plated all three of its runs in the third inning.
Kevin Hawley went the distance on the hill for Warsaw, allowing just the one earned run in seven innings.
Central outhit the Tigers 7-4 with both teams making two errors in the contest.
Shay Hepler and Caleb Moneyheffer each had a hit and an RBI to lead Warsaw, which had won its last four games prior to Tuesday night.
Josh Frantz had an RBI and scored a run and Jared Lemler and Justin Oberlin each had a hit for Warsaw.
Eppers had a triple and Riley Futterknecht a double for Central. Mike Namisnak had two hits for the winners.
Warsaw, which will play in the Elkhart Memorial Sectional with Central at season’s end, drops to 9-8 on the season.
There was no junior varsity game Tuesday night.
Warsaw, which is 7-3 in conference play, travels to NorthWood Wednesday for a league game at 5 p.m.
