Gun Permit Requirements Changing Effective Wednesday
Effective Wednesday, those applying for personal protection permits will no longer be able to have their fingerprints obtained at just any police agency.
On March 25, Indiana State Police advised that everyone wanting to obtain personal protection gun permits through the state, must acquire fingerprints at an approved “inkless” location. The process for applying for a gun permit is as follows:
Step 1: Complete the online application at http://aries.in.gov/Firearms/Permit.aspx. At the end of the application, you will receive directions on how to schedule electronic fingerprinting (step 2) and payment of state fee.
Step 2: Schedule electronic fingerprinting through MorphoTrust. Locally, an inkless location exists at 2519 E. Center St., Warsaw, which is at the Wyndham Gardens, and operates from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays.
Step 3: Bring your Application Number to your local law enforcement agency for approval and local fee payment.
Step 4: Your application will be electronically transferred to ISP for final review. If your application is approved, your permit will be sent to you via U.S. Mail. If your application is rejected, you will be notified via U.S. Mail and will receive instructions on how to file an appeal.
Printing for personal protection permits will cease at the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department tomorrow and at other agencies statewide in a few more days. Ink fingerprints for security or personal/work related background checks are still being completed at KCSD.
