Tiger Track Ladies Take Two
DUNLAP – The wait was well worth it for the Warsaw girls track team.
The Tigers, after being rained out Tuesday, continued their march to another conference championship with a pair of league wins.
Warsaw won 10 of 16 events Wednesday night en route to defeating host Concord and Elkhart Memorial in Northern Lakes Conference competition.
Junior Ann Harvuot and senior Sarah Ray were each double individual winners as coach Scott Erba’s squad bested the hosts 105-27 and Memorial 90.33-41.66 in improving to a perfect 5-0 in NLC action. Memorial beat Concord 76-56.
Harvuot won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes in times of 12.70 and 27.40 for Warsaw.
Ray continued to dominate in the distance events for the Tigers, taking top honors in the 1,600 and the 3,200 with winning efforts of 5:17.26 and 11:44.71 respectively.
Tennie Worrell won the 400 (1:01.98), while Jackie Ferguson took first in the 100 hurdles (16.17) for the Tigers on the track.
The duo of Sam Jensen and Megan Dearlove were winners in the field events for Warsaw. Senior Jensen won the discus with a throw of 123-9, while Dearlove cleared 9-6 to win the pole vault competition.
Warsaw also won two of the three relay events. The 4 X 100 ream of Harvuot, Mariah Harter, Sam Alexander and Brittney Rhodes won in a time of 51.33. The foursome of Nicole Eckert, Megan Kratszsch, Ferguson and Worrell won the 4 X 400 in a time of 4:12.01.
The Tigers will look to defend their title Saturday at the Kokomo Relays. Warsaw then finishes NLC regular-season action at Northridge Tuesday before hosting the conference meet on May 7.
