Pitching Paces Tigers Past Panthers
WARSAW – The Warsaw baseball team got the best of an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Monday evening.
The Tigers got a strong outing on the hill from the duo of Jason Ferguson and Justin Oberlin to edge NorthWood 2-1 in a Northern Lakes Conference contest.
The league game was moved from NorthWood to Warsaw due to wet field conditions in Nappanee.
Senior starter Ferguson allowed just one unearned run over the first 5 1/3 innings to get the win for the Tigers. He allowed just three hits, while striking out one and walking one.
Oberlin allowed no hits over the final 1 2/3 innings to notch the save for Warsaw.
The Tigers got both of their runs in the third inning. Shay Hepler led Warsaw, which outhit the Pantherrs 5-3, by going 2-3 with a double and two RBI in the win.
Jared Lemler, Michael Miller and Brandon Shipp each had a hit for the Tigers in the NLC win.
Warsaw improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the NLC.
The Tigers play at NLC foe Northridge on Wednesday.
