Warsaw Christian Fourth-Grade Pioneers
Fourth graders in Beki Dingledein’s class at Warsaw Christian School are pictured during Pioneer Day. This day helped students imagine life as an American pioneer.
Having just made several models of a pioneer village, students learned about pioneer log homes, covered bridges and Conestoga wagons. The life of Laura Ingalls Wilder was studied for information about the pioneer era.
Children arrived at school wearing pioneer costumes. During the day, students enjoyed a variety of activities that included quilting a cloth patch, dipping a wick in wax to form a thin candle, shaking cream into butter and participating in a spelling bee.
In previous years students made the entire noon meal of cornbread, deviled eggs and stew over an open fire. This year, however, weather hampered the school schedule, so students ate a pre-made pioneer meal.
