Thomas L. Hoffer
Thomas L. Hoffer, 78, of Etna Green, Ind., passed away at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at home with his family near his side.
Tom was born the son of Fred Hoffer and Gladys Hunter Hoffer on July 8, 1934, in Mishawaka, Ind. He was a lifelong resident of the Etna Green, attended Etna Green High School and was a member of the Etna Green United Methodist Church.
Tom was retired from driving truck, hauling freight for Schneider Trucking in 1995. He had previously driven truck for Everly Trucking Company of Bourbon where he hauled livestock.
He was an avid IU basketball fan and a fan of NASCAR and World of Outlaws. He was quite a Patriot with a keen interest in politics and world history.
On June 21, 1953, he married Carol Hyndman, who survives.
Thomas is also survived by four children: Debra (Carl) Feldman, Etna Green; Jody (Steve) Nifong, Etna Green; Rick (Arica) Hoffer, Bourbon, Ind.; and Todd (Tena) Hoffer, Etna Green; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jerri Monesmith, Etna Green; and Sandy Lou Cain, Glasgow, Ky.; and two brothers: Andy (Beverly) Hoffer, Warsaw, Ind.; Ron (Dana) Hoffer, New Haven, Ind.; and a sister-in-law: Mary Hoffer, Indianapolis, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Sam Hoffer.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 21, in Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Joe Lampton officiating. Burial will follow in Etna Green Cemetery.
