Tiger Netters Fall To Raiders
WARSAW – A slow start to the season continued Wednesday night for the Warsaw girls tennis team.
The host Tigers dropped a 4-1 final to unbeaten Northridge in a Northern Lakes Conference match.
Jacqueline Sasso collected the lone point for the Tigers in the league contest. The junior defeated Ashley Owens 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
Sarah Smith and Emily Hughes each won in straight sets in singles play for the Raiders, who improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NLC.
Smith defeated junior Sarah Boyle 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Hughes topped junior Rachel Alexander 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Northridge No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Erickson and Courtney Clark outlasted seniors Olivia Wallin and Marley Smith in three sets. The Raider duo posted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win.
The Raiders swept the doubles competition as Mackenzie Martin and Emily Ereksen teamed at No. 2 to defeat Anna Hall and junior Mallory Bartel 6-3, 6-0.
Warsaw drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the NLC with the loss.
Warsaw did win the junior varsity competition by a 6-5 final.
Winning for the JV Tigers were Mallorie Stiver at No. 5 singles. Also victorious for Warsaw were the doubles teams of Lindsay Sciarra and Abbi Baum, Danielle Straits and Olivia Tucker, Ashley Neubaum and Mackenzie Riley, Bonnie Wong and Wesley Cowan and Rosalia Fleming and Cheyenne Jackson.
Warsaw hosts Fairfield Thursday and travels to Columbia City Friday for a make-up match.
