Goshen Sweeps Past Wawasee Tennis
GOSHEN — Having to reacquaint for the third time in five days, Goshen and Wawasee finally got their Northern Lakes Conference girls tennis opener in Monday night.
Having been rained out Thursday and Friday last week, the conditions were good enough Monday to play at Goshen Middle School, and the hosts wasted no time in a 5-0 sweep of Wawasee.
The Goshen varsity lost just four games all night, doing so in impressive fashion in sweeping the three singles court and both doubles slates. Sarah Rush defeated Jaclyn Miller in the three singles match while the teams of Emily Halley and Ali Peters at one doubles and Leah Shetler and Kayci Troyer at two doubles beat the Wawasee tandems of Jada Antonides and Priscilla Par, and Molly Smith and Krissa Keaffaber, respectively.
Miranda Kay took care of Esther Hermann, love and one, at one singles while Lisanne Scheffers regrouped to defeat Katy Ashpole, three and love, at two singles.
The JV courts also belonged to Goshen, winning 4-2. Chelsea Carolus and Ashley Larson won singles matches for the Lady Warriors.
Both programs will get back at it in NLC play Tuesday, Goshen (3-0, 1-0 NLC) at Northridge and Wawasee (2-2, 0-1 NLC) hosting Concord.
