UMC Presents Church Musical
First United Methodist Church will present the church musical, “At the Name of Jesus” by Deborah Craig-Claar and Robert Sterling, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, and at 11:07 a.m. Sunday, April 21, at the church’s Connection campus, 1692 W. Lake St., Warsaw.
The event is appropriate for all ages, there is no admission charge and the community is warmly encouraged to attend. Nursery care and refreshments will be provided.
The musical depicts the ministry and final week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ. The cast of 12 enacts the triumphant entry of Jesus and the disciples into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus’ arrest and mock trial, his encounter with Pilate, the crucifixion and resurrection. Authors Rebecca Jantz and Karla Worley contributed to the script, which is creatively presented in a stylized fashion, engaging the audience’s imagination at every turn.
With Andy Wright as Jesus, April Griner as Mary Madgalene, Luke Becknell as Peter and Jennifer Shepherd as Pilate, the dozens of other characters are portrayed by Deb Bishop, Sara Etchison, Emily Gough, Clara Griner, Duane Griner, Cindy Thomas, Deb Wright and Raygan Wright. The production is directed by Alan Chambers.
Providing the music are the church’s 30 voice sanctuary choir, Methodist gang children’s choir prepared by Claire Elliott, soloists Dianne Ratliff, Deb Bishop, Sara Etchison, John Kirkpatrick and Luke Becknell, and an orchestra of 14 instrumentalists conducted by Scott Avery.
The music includes the familiar hymns and choruses “Hallelujah What a Savior,” “How Beautiful,” “Glorify Thy Name,” “You Are My All in All,” “Worthy Is Your Name,” “At the Name of Jesus” and “Take the Name of Jesus with You,” along with exciting original material, all wonderfully orchestrated by Robert Sterling.
