Stolen Gun Used In Muncie Shooting
A gun allegedly stolen from a Milford home was used in a shooting in Muncie and the man believed to be responsible has local ties.
Devin Xavier Myers 18, of North Elgin Street, Muncie, is also known to stay at a home in the 500/600 block of Turkey Creek Drive, Milford. Myers was arrested Monday afternoon in Munice on a class B felony charge of aggravated battery following a shooting. The gun Myers used was allegedly stolen from Myer’s uncle’s home at 201 Turkey Creek Dr., Milford.
Milford Town Marshal Rich Miotto reported that Chester Myers notified police Monday evening his handgun had been stolen. The discovery was made after Myers heard his nephew had been arrested for attempted murder in the shooting. It is unknown when the gun was removed from the Milford home and Milford Police are working with Muncie authorities on the case.
Myers was apprehended by Muncie Police shortly after the 4 p.m. shooting, which occurred outside a residence on East Seventh Street. The shooting allegedly was the culmination of a long time feud between Devin Myers and the 17-year-old male teen victim. The injured teen suffered a non-life-threatening graze wound to his calf and was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial for treatment.
The victim immediately identified Myers whom he said stepped out of a house across the street and shot him.
Another individual detained after the shooting was questioned and released. Myers allegedly told police he saw the victim and grabbed the pistol and shot across the street. The gun was recovered at the scene.
Myers is being held without bond at the Delaware County Jail.
